When are you eligible for an expungement in Louisiana? Does an arrest and/or conviction stay on your public record forever?
Depending on your circumstances, the answer is likely no. As most law abiding people have a clean record before an unfortunate arrest for a misdemeanor in New Orleans like DWI, Public Intoxication, or Lewd Conduct; even if they are convicted, their record can be cleared. Certain provisions in Criminal Procedure allow for some convictions to be overturned once every Five years. There are even provisions to have a felony conviction overturned, and new Expungement rules allow for some felonies to be expunged after Ten years have passed.
